There are a number of things you can do. Maybe you can leave some of the stuff in storage. If you reduce the amount of stuff maybe you could also install a couple of safes for the most important stuff like guns. Not huge heavy safes. I have a safe bolted to the floor of my truck in the back seat area.
No matter what you have in any rig you want to develop a sense of your surroundings as you travel. People will argue that crime can happen anywhere but you know there is a huge difference between being in any city vs being in the desert near Bouse Az.
In cities like Bouse or Quartzsite or many other places you are also around like minded people. But even in the Q or Yuma or cottonwood or other relatively safer areas if you looked at crime stats you would probably find there are more problems closer to the city. People who don't have much need to stay closer to the things they need every day and some are looking for opportunities. If you don't have a lot of money for fuel you might stay closer to town. If you want a larger number of potential targets you would also do better near a larger number of people.
This doesn't mean that everyone near town is bad, some like the convienence of being near town. You understand what I'm getting at. There are also unique areas out in the country that might have high rates of petty crime. For example we were exploring in SC and drove back into a tralhead. The parking area had areas with broke vehicle glass laying all over. It's from one of the locals seeing people drive back there and go out hiking. They then go in and smash a window and go through the vehicle.
So that's all part of developing a sense of feel for your surroundings. I have had a couple people on here message me about camping near us because they were concerned about coming to an unfamiliar area. We were more than happy to meet them and kept an eye on things while they went off.
In your travels you can also make friends and be helpful for each other. You can also check people out when you pull into places. I was in a remote area of Florida and pulled into Boone docking area with one ratty old pick up truck sitting there with a guy in it. I parked and walked around the area and check out the bulletin board then deliberately walked over towards him sort of so that I could say hi. It turned into a conversation and the guy was a vet who was living in the front seat of the truck and had some serious health issues. We made him a plate of dinner talked a few times while we were there. So we both went from being strangers to knowing each other and maybe even having an interest in the others well being.
The door of a motorhome can be pried open just like the door of any other RV. You can use a couple trail cams locked to trees around your rig. You can chain them to you rig and set them on a chair looking at your rig. You can chain and place them under the edge of your rig looking towards the door. Some people install systems in the rig with multiple cameras. Stick an attachment security sign in the ground. Lol. At my son's property I bought a sign that says smile you're on camera.
I was casino camping near fort Mohave with a friend with some homeless alcoholic people near me. The guy came over and was complimenting me on my $450 torque lift steps and said his wife falls off their cheesy wood platform step. I went over and looked at their 1960s fifth wheel and showed him that the metal bracket which was under it is actually a fold-out step so we moved the wood junk out of the way and got the step out. I also helped him get his water pump working. My camping friend asked me what in the world I was doing over there with those people, I said I was making sure that he came over and stole his generator that night and not mine. He looked at me and said he was locking all the stuff up. I wouldn't leave my gen out unlocked anywhere. Mine is bolted in the bed of my truck and needs two people to unbolt it and it would be helpful if one is a contortionist.
Sorry this is so long but I'm just trying to share what I can. You might join the Escapees, they have gatherings at the Q. You can meet people on Rvillage or Irv or rvforums. Needless worry is bad so concentrate on things like making your generator secure or a camera system or meeting people and groups. You will learn the ropes and love it.
When I'm working around my kids houses I often say ya know, I had a tool just like that one and we just laugh.
