- brireneExplorerI used it once after camping with bil and his family. Of course his kids used our bathroom several times, and when I went to dump it was clogged. Put a fairly small amount of Rid x in the tank,.dumped the next weekend as smoothly as,...well...you get the idea.
- Big_KatunaExplorer IIWaste of money. In your RV or your house.
- BumpyroadExplorerhey, if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, go for it.
bumpy - bendjosephExplorerI will give it a try. Our RV is hooked to a septic tank that we share with another seasonal. They use very little water in their black tank. I was hoping that the rid-x would help with cleaning my tank, plus work on all the "solids" my neibghors send out. As for price, it's $6.97 for a box that treats 1500 gallons. That's $.21 a tank.
- sorenExplorerBeen a topic of conversation since the beginning of self-contained RVs. It is not a good idea, but a harmless waste of money. The fact is that you have a HOLDING tank under the RV toilet, not a septic system. The goal is to keep the contents of the tank well liquefied to allow for easy and complete discharge, and to control the odors, that's it. If you allow the contents of the tank to remain long enough, they will begin the process of anaerobic decomposition, just as they would in a simple septic system. That said, this process is not necessary, or intended when using the holding tank.
Remember, these type of products are marketed by companies that need you to believe that they are necessary. They are not necessary in a properly functioning residential septic system, and they are just a waste of money in a camper. - gatorcqExplorerWhy would to use it? It is a plastic tank and not a septic system.
Once a month, preform a 15 to 30 minute flush.
Use a cheap water softener, pour about a 2 to 6 ozs.
Once every 2 years have it power flushed.
