Recently I purchased Rid-X RV. The main reason is that Rid-X has had a stellar reputation for treating septic tanks. I bought a bottle from WM. Our main black tank has a 51 gallon capacity. Rid-X instructions say to use 3 oz. per 40 gallon tank capacity, therefore I added slightly over 4 oz to the tank. Granted it has been close to or at 100 degrees up here in north Texas this past week. I added the Rid-X RV to the tank on Wednesday at the last change. Yesterday when we came back to the RV after a night away and after a flush I got a horrendous stench emanating from the black tank. Mind you, we have been RV owners for five years and, while not full timers, have spent almost two years away using the previous RV and this one year old MH. Needless to say I am finished with Rid-X RV.I have read some positive things concerning Odorlos. Do any of you use or have used this product, and if so, what have been the results.I have used a couple other products prior to the Rid-X RV with great results but always looking for black tank Utopia.You need not bother responding about the Geo method as I am familiar with that procedure.

The products you referenced are for a SEPTIC tank. Your RV has a holding tank. Flush well when dumping and don't skimp on water use. Have a look at the GEO method. Use it all the time and never any odor issues, even over several weeks. The key is liberal water use.

Read the label....RidX is for septic tanks...that is..tanks where poop sits for awhile and the bacteria action of RidX can go to work. Your black tank if for TEMPORARY storage of poop before the tank get flushed out.IMHO, clean your black tank completely using the Geo method or whatever you prefer, then flush well. Use ample water when flushing and ample water when dumping and you won't need all the extra junk in an attempt to make it smell good. In over 50 years of camping, I've used nothing but water in my black tanks and never had any smell....not to say my )(*& don't stink....:B....just sayin....Dennis

Compare the ingredients in the 'regular' Rid X and the Rid X for RVs...the only difference is in the price for the box...in fairness to the OP...he's from San Antonio and water is probably more expensive than any chemicals out there.....just sayin.....Dennis

Rid-X is for septic tanks last I heard. It does not work fast like Happy Camper. I dump like once a week both tanks and no smell at all. But I have seen some in RV parks when they dump, they just about run the neighborhood out of the park. They use just water and not much at that. So they get all kinds of problems with toilet pyramid problems because of the lack of water. Stinky all around, no enzymes to eat up the waste.

Some are just stubborn and will not do it. Not even for the sake of the guy parked right next to them. LOL!

The only thing that smelled was our master bath's black tank. It is very warm here and that does not help. It took me three total fill up and dumps to get the odor out of the tank. As I said before, this was the worst black tank odor we have experienced in five years RVing. The vent is fine as are all other parts of the system. The only issue was the Rid-X RV.
Now Odorlos is in the tank and the jury is out.

Do you mean the seals in the blade valves that are used to dump the tanks? If so, the "rubber" seals in these valves are probably made of Santoprene (Valterra uses these), and Santoprene is not affected by bleach.

As far as the chemical analysis of the seal material itself...I have done that NOR do I state thatthey are PROBABLY made out of Santoprene and have to guess at the results.

1) You STILL didnt explain how bleach kills black tank stick...and..
2) YOU are GUESSING at the seal material and GUESSING at the results of seal/bleach interface!!!
