Security question

Outside we secure most items with bicycle cables. As the saying goes it keeps honest people from stealing, thieves will cut the cable. Inside 12 GA mossberg with OO buckshot.

16 years of full-timing and lots of boondocking in remote places and have never been concerned and have never had problems. Just GO and enjoy yourself. If it happens - it happens. You just can't cover every aspect of safety. Have a good full-timers insurance policy, keep original important documents somewhere else - at a relative's or safe deposit box, backup your computer files and keep a copy elsewhere, know your surroundings. That's about all you can do.

I don't think any of us can know for certain that everywhere is 100% safe because anything can happen anywhere, at any time.

If you've had theft already in places you've stayed...find new places to stay & bump up your security at all times. Yes, be outside more, don't leave anything that can be carried off out to tempt anyone, and keep everything of great value in the main living area not in a storage compartment.

Where are all of you people staying that is so dangerous?

Thanks for all the input. I know they are easy to break into. And if you are not in camper alot they can be easy targets.

There is always the threat however... We have noticed alot of fellow campers always go out of their way to watch out for each other. A good cup of coffee sitting around the camp fire visiting with the neighbors goes along way...

I almost think the thief treat is worse in congested areas listening to others tell their stories...

I guess the big thing for us is to always be aware of our surroundings...

Why would someone steal a standard Satellite dish? I could see an automatic dish but not the regular one as they are a dime a dozen

Just for information, OP. I wouldn't post any nra stickers on your Vehicle or Trailer. You might get some unwanted visitors. That is all i am going to say on this subject. I Don't want to start another discussion that has already been talked about.

For what it's worth, you are MUCH more likely to have break ins while the RV is in storage than while on the road using it. Break ins and theft in the campground is not a common thing but in a storage lot it is VERY common.

As for security, Most Rvs are an easy target since they can be broken into with a small hammer or can opener. It's a GOOD thing that RVers look out for each other and that theft among them is rare. I've been camping for over 50 years now and have been in commercial RV Parking lots and back country campgrounds and NEVER had anything stolen.

In 8 years of full-timing, the only thing we've lost was a beach ball from under the slide out awnings during high winds. Or maybe a 5 gal bucket that flew out of the back of the TV.

We've stayed in nice RV Parks, less nice Mobile Home Parks. Large cities and out in the country. Some were gated, some were wide open, but we've always felt safe and secure. Including leaving the unit for long weekends and up to 7 day stretch for vacation.

There isn't an RV compartment, door or window that can't be opened with a sturdy screw driver........that is why we have a FT'rs home insurance policy.

The other measure we use is 'introduce ourselves to neighbors' when we get set up in any CG. Friendly chat letting them know who we are & if THEY need anything just holler.....'neighbors' seem to look out for each other

I didn't worry about thieves when we lived in a S&B and I'm NOT going to worry about them or a lot of other stuff while FT'ng.
Life is too short to waste on worrying about what cretins might do.
