Solar Panel (Flexible)

Would there be any of you that have "Flexible Solar Panels" installed or have researched them?
I know they are 135W or less and I have found nothing higher, but I would be interested in your comments on them as compared to the aluminum frame - glass insert (original) style.
Comments appreciated!
  • When I started looking at solar I was going to buy them, then I read that they will over heat being glued down on the roof and will not last as long. So I went with Renogy poly panels and I am really happy with them. Even in some shade they will still produce power. Stay away from the cheaper brands.
  • Have a friend that had them. His only comment was that they sucked
  • Glued down flexible panels are historically not as efficient as regular panels .... but I have heard recently that newer versions are becoming more efficient and competitive with framed panels.
  • labren,

If they are Unisolar they do a great job. The others, not so much.
  • Drop the flexible panel idea. You need to look at price/watt. Nuff Said!
  • I have a 20 or 30watt flex panel that runs a fan in my vent to suck the hot air out while its in storage, I have had it for a few years already and have no problems with it, I taped it down with eternabond tape.

    What he said.
  • It is not just cost per watt. There is also watt per area covered. Pretty much all flexible panels have a lower over all output per square foot.

Be aware that some of them may "cup" from sun heating over heating them.
