Definitely. Six months is a long time for water to be sitting in a holding tank. I wouldn't take the chance.

Drain now and then fill and sanitize later.

Where in Az? If it will be the Phoenix area, you don't need to winterize. We never have in 20 plus years.

I would just winterize the unit and not worry about anything.

2 years ago in January we were in Amado, 30 miles N of the border, and we woke up one morning to a 13 temp and froze water hose.

I drain mine completely.
When I refill, I use the bleach solution to sanitize the system before use.

I would keep it full to minimize the amount of air in the tank. Air is your enemy .
