- Cummins12V98Explorer IIIWe decided to live full time in our RV so the quality of the materials and construction had to be good. Our MS felt like a home. Approaching 2 years this fall and still happy.
- rmalik1ExplorerWife liked how it looked and I did the comparison to other 5'vers on build quality. I also compared to the top of the line.
Looks, layout, build and finally cost. Lead us to purchased what we believe is a 5'ver that has bang for the buck.
Cedar Creek - NolanExplorerOur trailer is our first RV. First off I had to fit in it. I'm 6 ft 3 in. I refused to stoop. That killed a lot of RVs. Then we wanted a well built unit. That killed even more. When we walked into a 38 ft Hitchhiker and saw the floorplan, we said this is for us. Except it was to long. Went with a shorter trailer with the same floorplan. Have had our trailer for nine years and have no plans on getting anything else.
- jims1ExplorerMy wife opened the door and said "WOW"..
Its our 2nd Carriage product and she loves it. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIFloor plan
MFG. didn't void warranty if used for FT
MFG. reputation
And I wanted a 5'vr - blkdodgeExplorerWIFE WANTED IT, ENOUGH SAID.
- 2gypsies1Explorer III1. Manufacturer (Newmar is the one)
2. Mechanics
3. Drive Handling
4. Storage
5. Only 2 slides (easier to squeeze into great places amidst trees)
6. Floorplan - thecampingmanExplorerThe open floorplan got my attention. It's wide open and at that time had the maximum square footage of 400 sq. ft. of floor space.
The quality was there with plenty of 120 volt circuits. !2 gauge wiring, circuit breakers. Vinyl roof, gel coat sides.
We looked for a year to find a used one with the features we wanted. Dual pane windows, air ride suspension, 4 door refrigerator.
We never found a used one, but we found a dealer that had ordered this model with all options. He was getting kind of nervous because it was a small dealership. Plus someone had broken into the unit and stolen the old CRT television and the cheap Pioneer receiver. So he sold it to us for close to cost, plus discounted for the missing electronics. (Stuff that I'd have to replace anyway.) Woo Hoo!
In ten years I've replaced the cheap receptacles with 20 amp rated ones. All of the awnings & slide out covers. (insurance paid for them) Replaced the Norcold refrigerator with a Samsung 120v fridge. Two sets of tires. Right now I'm setting here with the big 16' kitchen slide stuck in the out position because it's sheared off a shear pin. Got to fix that before fall when we head back to Florida. And my DW had to restring a couple of the day/night shades.
Overall we've been happy with our choice. - valhalla360NavigatorThe bigger question is what is your idea of "full timing".
We travel 2-4 times a week for short distances with occasional stays of a week to a month.
The smallest that you can be comfortable in. Cuts travel costs and makes it easier to handle.
We find a 4 season rigs not that important but we travel with the weather, so we aren't in the noth in the winter. - rambothesharkExplorerI found a lot of the floor plans pretty similar and would have suited me just fine except for a few.
What I was really looking for though was a TV that is stomach to chest high and not stuck up high up in the corner. So many RVs seem to have their tv placed like an afterthought and not at a good viewing angle.
I also wanted a bed I could make easily. I did not want to have to contort myself into weird positions just to put on a fitted sheet.
