temporary storage for pull behinds??

All you guys that full time or not fulltime, if you get a chance to get out of the trailer for a week how hard is it to find temp storage facilities.??

Reason i ask is we plan on fulltiming in 4 or so years.

I am sure most timeshare places do not allow RV to be parked on site, but not certain as we have not done this thus far.

SO i was thinking if we could find RV parks with onsite storage that would do 7-10 days that might be the ticket.

anyone have experience with this concept and any other thoughts on this type of deal or other suggestions??
  • Worse case scenario you could find public storage that may do a month-to-month program.

IMO, it's pretty easy. Many campgrounds offer daily or weekly storage. And more often than not, there are nearby storage places that you can use. In Las Vegas, I found a dozen or more to store the camper when I wanted to fly back to my hometown for 2 weeks.

Finding one with power was next to impossible short of renting a site for the entire time (which a few campgrounds were more than willing to charge me full price for). I ended up having to give the neighbors a bunch of alcohol and dumped the remainder of the fridge. The costs added up pretty quick.

we own timeshare as well. Through a company called RCI, we are able to exchange our timeshare unit in Myrtle Beach for unit all over the world and US.

With some thought and planning we can get special off season weeks at resorts for 3-500 dollars for 7 days in 4-5 start resort. Plus with the unit we own we can get 2-3 weeks of usage with off season deals.

How's RCI and that timeshare in Myrtle Beach been treating you? My mother has had 2 units in MB for 30 years and she will have to literally give them away to get rid of them.

What about the cleaning fees, maintenance fees, reservation fees and so on?
  • Actually very good.. we did not buy from developer, got it resale for a lot less.. tell her to check out TUG2.net.. you can give them away there. A lot depends on where and when the unit are available for use determines it value. summer time good,, spring fall OK,, winter bad.. thats the way it work in MB..

the fees do add up but figure what it cost per day for the same hotel type place and you see the difference.

    good luck

  • Very good to know and i sorta suspected as much.. another reason to have a good solar system on board. We would more than likely have reefer cleaned out as most TS places have one in them and we would take all food there. .

  • As others have said it really isn't that hard. We like to cruise, and it's also a great way to "take a vacation from your vacation."

We'll book a stay in a park for a month and then jump on a ship. The daily cost of a monthly stay is not that bad, we have electric for the fridge, plus a secure area with neighbors.

Tell the park owners what will be going on, and they will also keep an eye on your rig. Heck, one park owner even drove us to the ship and picked us up a week later.
  • I would guess for a cruise you are located close to water somewhere.. :) I like the idea of a "vacation from your vacation". Another good reason to have a Florida address is the great deal on cruises. I like the monthly rate deal had not thought about that angle.

thank for the great idea thus far, keepumcoming

We learned that from a fellow traveler when we were much younger and would go overseas for a vacation. Because of the money and the effort it took, we felt we had to do something special every day with no down time. We would burn out, and didn't enjoy the last half of the vacation.

Two winters ago I found out to fly round trip to Jamaica from Orlando was only $200, Groupon provided the discount all inclusive, so off we went from Texas. When you're mobile, and retired things like that are now possible if you just take the time to think about it.

This winter we may take a junket to Las Vegas just for a change of pace, and the price including airfare is very affordable.

Just because you can change the view out your window at will, does not mean you have to be handcuffed to that window.
