thinking about full-timing again - medical care

At 75, we are thinking about becoming full-timers again. We have a Medicare Advantage Plan. If you have an advantage plan, what has been your experience in getting care when out of the your home county? Did you go back to Original Medicare? Anything else you would care to add about getting medical care on-the-road?

  • Read the fine print of your Advantage plan to see what is covered and for how long if you have an emergency.

It's recommended for full-timers who travel to use original Medicare then you can use it for anything - country-wide. You could be thousands of miles away from your hometown and have what is considered a non-emergency event but still need a doctor. I'm sure you wouldn't be driving back to wherever to get it taken care of when a simple visit where you're traveling could be all you need.

The Escapees RVer Insurance Exchange recommends sticking with original Medicare. That's what I'm doing.

If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan (Medicare Part C), then you could be giving up some of Medicare's "portability". The idea of always returning to your "home base" while on the road, may not always be possible, or practical.

My advantage plan allows both Urgent Care and Emergency anywhere which I have used several times......no problem. Never needed a dr visit which I would pay for myself.

I return to my home area once a year for all my annual stuff.

    Call me if you wish.

My plan would be to return to my home area in the winter time.
