To Trade or not to Trade?

For the full timers, How long do you keep your rig before deciding it is time to trade it in for a new one?

I was told by several full timers, while on the road, that they do it every three years to get the best trade in value and to avoid a lot of problems. We will be in ours for three years in March of 2016 and as of today (11/30/2015), we have put 13,000 miles on our 43ft fifth wheel rig.

Should we trade or keep? What are your thoughts?

  • A decent quality RV should be good for 10 years with minimal repairs. Of course if you start with a cheap piece of junk that can be a lot shorter.
  • You really don't get anything on a trade.

We full-timed in a 33' 5th wheel for 8 years and sold it ourselves while wintering in one place.

We full-timed in a 40' motorhome for 8 years and took it to PPL consignment in Houston. We set our own price and sold it in one month.

Full-timers in our circle of friends don't keep getting new.
