Home base doesn't have to be a S&B. Our home base is a site we purchased in a pretty waterfront RV resort. It's less than 2 hours in every direction from family and friends. We spend half the year here and the rest on the road. Also most of our friends rv also they quite often show up for a few days and stay in one of the rental sites.
The other half of the family is 2000 miles away so a home base doesn't play into it. They like finding out where we will be and travelling to meet us so they can see different things.
