I think the white hoses in my local Walmart are made by Camco. Do you have a link to the hoses you are talking about?

And yes, my hoses will leak at the connectors if I am not very careful in attaching them.

Best results I've had with hoses is when I have to replace a bent end with a plastic repair piece. The plastic repairs ends seem to seal better for me and seem to take abuse better than metal / brass. This is what I mean:

As to the washers themselves... I find the basic yellow plastic washers seem to seal very well, but also have a tendency to fall out - but I use them mostly. The "natural rubber" washers never work for me, and I avoid them. So I don't have a great answer for a better washer!

I do use quick disconnects and they are brass. They work well and I rarely have gasket issues with them where they hook to the hoses.

Walmart has a blue drinking water hose that has good ends in the RV section.

The others are on to something. You mention a "white hose" and from my experience, the white color NSF certified water hoses are very cheap vinyl with stamped and rolled ends. Rolled threads are bad news.

Look for a better, more expensive hose, with machined ends. You'll know by the weight and sharpness on the threads when you find the good ones. I have Camco's premium blue colored hoses with said ends.

Regarding washers, well with solid hose ends even the worst plastic washers work well. Then you bump up to decent flat rubber, then a bigger upgrade is using thick oring style washers. They don't work like an oring, but they can solve a lot of simple sealing issues when flat washers fail.

If you go with quick disconnects, get the brass ones.
I use them. They save a hassle when connecting up. I use a 5/8 rubber chair leg for a cap to keep debris out.

Mine have leaked on occasion when I over tighten them.
Backed off a little and leak stops.

Washer seem to last forever. Usually lose them before they wear out.
