Weird Water Discharge

Before posting my problem let me explain my trailer.

We live in the trailer full time since July of last year.
It has not moved from its current location except for a few feet for some tree clearing the property owners did.
I turned off my water heater.
I emptied my water earlier through an outside pipe system that has two lines below the kitchen.
Those likes were leaking water and causing an issue I turned off the water to the RV to be able to wrap plumbers tape to help stop leaking and then tightened them.

I turned the water back and went inside and turned on my water heater after about 10 to 15 minutes. I did not use the water for another 15 minutes or so.

Here is where the problem started.

I turned on the cold water to get some water to drink (the water here is well kept clear and tastes good to me).
I then turned on the hot water side and it started spurting water and when the water came out it was brownish.
The cold side comes out clear before and after.
I let it run for a moment and it came out clean after a few moments (less than 2 minutes).
I went to the bathroom about an hour after this and the same from that sink only this time it took about 5 minutes before it was clear again.

The water still spurts a little.
Only the hot water side seems to have an issue.

It is fine from both sinks but we are moving to a new park soon and I was curious if anyone knows what this is and should I expect this to happen at the new park.

Thank you in advance.

  • Thank you all for your advice, the spurting did quit and the water cleared up. Now its gotten worse on color so I am going to try a few things suggested and let yall know how it goes.
  • Spurting air is common after you drain water out of the system - usually cures itself by running water through the system.

Brown water crud sounds like dirty hot water tank - they make an inexpensive "wand" that allow you to flush out/clean the tank (google cleaning rv hot water tank)- depending on model might need a new anode rod.
  • Did you turn the water heater on before you opened a hot tap and vented the air out, allowing the tank to fill with water first?
  • Spurting water is most likely due to air trapped in water heater. Try opening the relief valve on water heater to bleed air out of it.
The brownish is most likely sediment that has accumulated in bottom of hot water tank. Try draining your hot water heater and flushing the system out before refilling and purging the air from the tank. remember to remove screens/aerators from faucets after flushing your system.
  • I would guess that you had a buildup of rust/crud/etc. in your HWTank that was dislodged?
