We've been FTing 6+ years now and still having a blast. We were very excited when we started--had counted down our retirement for about 3 years. We were very fortunate that both of us were able to retire on the same day.
We sold the house and hit the road. Our FTing style has changed a little from 6 years ago, we will sit still a little longer now than we did then. On the other hand, we still like to move about exploring what's around the next bend. We sat still for the longest period ever last winter, when we stayed in one place for 5 months. We also both agreed that 5 months is too long for us and we probably won't do that again for any time in the foreseeable future.
Some day we keep thinking we will probably buy a "base" somewhere. But at this point whenever we talk about it-the question becomes why buy a base that we will be responsible for if we don't think we are ready to sit still for more than a month or two at a time? Having a base we will not be at was like having a house that we wouldn't be at--whats the point?
But that's us--others have different thoughts and needs. They say you need to have a hobby or something to do when you retire in order to stay alive. Some golf, some hunt, some garden--we travel, hike and explore-and that's what we do.
With a couple of minor changes, this would be our reply also.
