As mentioned above all those states do get cold and windy.
I didn't want one iota of cold weather when I left to full-time from up North.
I opted for Florida after many of my friends that did the AZ, NM and Texas stopped going there because of the repeated cold and windy weather and joined me in Florida.
If you look around the mid section of Florida there are vast amounts of places with real trees, huge forests and beautiful crystal blue springs and just as clear rivers. Kayaking, canoeing, bike trails, snorkeling with the manatees etc. I call it the best kept secret of Florida. Shh, don't tell anyone! :C
