Where to stay in winter

We winter in the Florida Keys. It's the furthermost (warmest) point in the United States, therefore the warmest weather. It's expensive but we love it. Anywhere in the lower third of the state should be pretty warm. The northern half of the state can be pretty cold (30's at times)

I'm not sure about getting your pain meds filled. Florida has made it more difficult, but maybe other states have as well.

I think with the new laws on Schedule II drugs (yours that you mentioned) that you can get a 3 month supply of each.

South Florida, south Texas, or south western Arizona. Those are your warmest spots in the states. If you plan on Florida, you will probably want to make reservations for any time after Christmas. Before Christmas you have many options, but a lot of reservations start after Christmas.

Good luck on the drugs. I don't think you can get more than 30 days on painkillers. My dad is 91 and on lesser pain killers than you. Even his family doctor won't write the scripts anymore. It has to be a pain doctor and then 30 days at a time. I take one, but my doctor won't write for it anymore. He gives me a lesser one which doesn't work as well, but it too, can only be written for 30 days. Fortunately I don't need more than that to get me by for the winter. If you are in Texas, to get a refill it would have to be written by a Texas doctor. They won't refill any script from an out of state doctor. I had trouble finding a pharmacy to fill my script a mile down the road from my doctor of 17 years in the town where we lived for 40 years because I now fulltime and have a SD license. All these laws have done is make it harder for the average joe to get the meds he needs. The drug traffickers aren't having any trouble.

We are currently spending our winters in Mesa, AZ. Warm weather and good place to get Med's. DW needed a specialist for her illness. Went to Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. Got excellent care and the Med's she needed.
For other Med's we use a mail order service that sends them to whatever RV park that we are staying.
Our neighbor needed Med's in FL last winter. Had to get a local doctor to prescribe his Med's.

anywhere south can be great but at times it can get pretty cool anywhere down south. just start researching an area.

as for you meds, just ask your pharmacy, are you with a national brand, i.e. walmart or walgreens?

In central and southern Florida, the nicer places often fill up in December; some before.
Plan ahead.
A "scouting" trip would be best once you decide on a general location.

I've heard that Alamogordo/Las Cruses is a best kept secret for snowbirds. I would think it would depend on what you enjoy doing.

Florida can be pricey in the winter. Stay inland and south of Orlando for warmer weather. One park that seemed nice when we stayed there (not in the winter) is Christmas RV Park in Christmas FL on Hwy 50 between Orlando and Titusville. www.christmasrvpark.com I would definitely make reservations.
Farther north and a bit cooler but still warm most days is Williston Crossing RV Park in Williston FL. In Florida in addition to monthly rate you usually have to pay for electric. We averaged $75 a month for electric during the winter. We conserved a bit but not drastically.

We stay in the RGV. (south Texas.). We use walgreens. Can get meds anyplace there is a Wallgreens.
