Winter Routes

HI,

My family and I are thinking about spending six months this winter on the road in the Southern States. We're thinking about heading south in late November, starting from Vancouver Canada and moving South from there.

I know there are a lot of RVers who head South for the winter, but do most of you stay in one location (ie. Palm Springs) or are there routes that everyone seems to follow.

Would love some ideas, would like to make it to the East coast if we have time.

Josh

  • Hmmm, Winter in BC on the coast. That's where the Prairie people go to escape -40C winters. Those that can't get south anyway.
I'm from the Prairies and I haven't seen a winter here for 11 years and am hoping for 11 more away. We leave mid Oct and come home mid April. Seen a lot of the southern states and decided Fla was what we liked best.
Head south pick a route and head east, Anything above I10 in winter will be cool to cold. Spring on the east coast will be busy. Go to routes thread on here and ask about routes. Lots from BC go to Fla and all parts west..
  • No one knows what you like. If you want to move South and sit there then go ahead and do that. If you want to enjoy the splendor this Country has to offer then work your way South and then East or West and eventually back to the North. There is no wrong answer here, only different opinions. Going from Canada to Indio and returning to Canada (IMHO) is a complete waste of time unless all you wanted to do was escape the Canadian Winter.
  • We aren't big on staying one place but it does help with fuel costs. We usually leave west central Illinois and head straight south to the Gulf Coast. Lots of great places, state parks, etc all along the Gulf coasts of Mississippi and east through Alabama and Florida. We start out near Biloxi and camp our way east along the Gulf to such places as Gulf SP and Ft. Pickens(national park campground) near Pensacola then on south to the Fl. western gulf coast. But don't expect it to feel like summer along the coast until well south in Fl. and many of those campgrounds need reserved well in advance.
