- TucsonJimExplorer IIThe price is the price. For me, it's the convenience. When you are pulling a large towable, it's nice to have room to get to the pump and have a place to park for a little while. The same could be said for other truck stops. But at least they are trying to cater to the RV community.
If I get a discount on fuel, I'll use their card. Of course, you also get a discount on propane and pay 1/2 the dump fee. - 2oldmanExplorer II

The winner. Fuel is low-profit. Snacks and drinks are high profit, which is why 'discounts' often require a trip inside.
The token disocount have but one purpose and that is to get you inside and spending additioal monies on their overpriced junk. - Desert_CaptainExplorer III

I mapped out a trip that I'm thinking about taking that is roughly 2400 miles each way, for a total of 5000 miles to provide some looseness around the edges.
At 7 cents a gallon savings and estimating 8 MPG, my total savings for the trip would be $43.75, assuming that I could fill up at a Pilot or Flying J every single time. For me, this is not enough of a savings to bother with getting a charge card when I already get cash rewards on both my check card and regular Visa card.
Clearly you have figured out the reality of the alleged discounts. They only work if there is a FJ where and when you need it. Get off the interstates and they disappear. The token disocount have but one purpose and that is to get you inside and spending additioal monies on their overpriced junk.

I can usually get fuel 7-10 cents cheaper a gallon just by going down the street to another station....and not have to wait in a line for a fuel pump.
Pilot/Flying J just don't do it for me.
Flying J's that we have visited have never been any more expensive than other nearby gas stations. And we never have had to wait behind more than 1 rv at a time. Plus with their rv lanes, we find it extremely easy to get in and out of. The discounts offered on their coffee is great also.
Just ONE example of the many that we encountered as we traveled across USA
Kingman, AZ
Flying J/Diesel $3.79
Next exit.......Smiths/Diesel $3.69 - wbwoodExplorer

Then don't do it.

I get 5% rebate with all gas/diesel fuel I charge to my Discover credit card. I think it beats what Good Sam offers.
5% of $1.00 = .05 cents
$3.899 for Diesel (example only)
Savings = $.19495 per gallon.
Yup - definatley better as long as you pay your bill off every month so there is no finance charges.
The rvpluscard is supposed to be paid off monthly as well. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIII can usually get fuel 7-10 cents cheaper a gallon just by going down the street to another station....and not have to wait in a line for a fuel pump.

It really isn't, considering that it's often just as easy find other stations where the price is already lower.
