A bit of a scam

I recently renewed my membership for 3 years based on the "two $25 merchandise certificates" offer. There was no explanation about conditions for using the certificates. I anticipated using them for on-line shopping. When they arrived today, I discovered that both certificates are only good in store. The nearest store is about 1 1/2 hours away. In addition, one expires in 3 weeks and the other is valid for 4 weeks starting a month from now. Spending 3 hours driving to save $25 is a waste. I definitely feel like i got scammed.

  • I went back and checked. When it got to the page for the road service plan there was another offer for a certificate with a very small print notice at the bottom that is was good in Campingworld, Overtons and Gander Outdoors retail stores. It is still not the best business practice:
    1. It appears to refer to the road service plan certificate
    2. The notation does not specifically state it is not good online.

We LIKE to visit the retail store and do stop off if we are passing by. However this was not a best practice to encourage customer engagement. To their credit, they did respond to my comments and offered a totally satisfactory resolution.

  • It's good you can and I have used the certificate by calling my order in, but I was in the market for a product anyway at that time. The problem still is with coupons that force you to make a purchase within a short period of time though, you are not in need of anything at the time.

At least make the certificate valid for a longer period of time. Maybe 60, 90, 180 days to allow members to utilize them and feel that they getting something in return. That would be a Good Sam way.
  • Hello rv_kayaker,

Thank you for your time and post, I apologize for the experience you have had with the merchandise certificates. Merchandise certificates are geared to help drive business into the Camping World retail stores. However, we do acknowledge that many of our customers do not live near a store, or it may be inconvenient for them to get to a store. You do have the option to send in the merchandise certificate and we can reimburse your credit card. You can place your order on www.campingworld.com or by calling the Camping World call center at 1-877-273-2025. On the merchandise certificate please write your name, order number and any contact information such as an email address or phone number and then send it to Camping World at P.O Box 90017 Bowling Green, KY 42102.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Thank you,
    Ella

  • So the details weren’t specified regarding the certificates or you didn’t read the details?

Wow, thanks for the heads up. That is a scam. I'd have been in the same boat.
It's also sleazy that unlike any other company, you can't use them on thier website.
