A Good (Sam) Deed Gone Awry
After being in Mexico until late Feb of this year hobbled by a terrible propane product I bought at Camping world I returned the part to Camping World on March 6th 2016 in Boulder City NV. I spoke to the manager there and was treated exceptionally well. She did all the right things.
But unbeknownst to me at the time she gave me a One Year extension on my GS Club membership.
Fast forward to Natchez MS November 22nd of this year. I was informed by the RV Park that my good Sam membership had expired on Nov 7th. This was my original 2 year membership started in 2014.
So I called Good Sam and was told by a very friendly person that my membership had not expired that it was good to Feb. (???) This is when I found out about the comped one year membership the Manager at CW in Boulder City had given me without telling me.
The two memberships were different numbers and my original was a 2 year deluxe membership. The new membership was a standard membership and was started in March 2016 ending in February of 2017.
My original membership as stated above ended in November of 2016.
Thus instead of getting a years additional membership for my really horrible problem with GS propane products (3 of which had to be returned to the store all were bad causing me hundreds of dollars needless expense in Mexico) I ended up with only 3 months of additional membership. I feel sure the intent of the store manager was to give a years membership and I am equally sure that this got confused in the processing where instead of just extending my original membership they gave me a whole new one.
Now my motivation in writing this is not to get more membership but to inform GS that all too often in my experience even when they try to do right by the customer they get tangled up in their own processes and end up with egg on their face.
The strange thing is I never saw a renewal notice. When I asked about this I was told that I was marked down for "no mail" to be sent to me. Well this is partly correct. I had asked that NO ADVERTISING be sent to my mailbox as I didn't want it clogged with those things only to be forwarded to me at my expense. But I didn't expect that to include renewal notices. So be it. In the future please be sure to send renewal notices but NO advertising.
I would have really appreciated the extra years membership and I did appreciate everyone's efforts at trying to make a real debacle on the part of GS better for me.
Now in all fairness everyone who dealt with me on this problem was professional and helpful and friendly especially the manager at the Boulder City store who was visibly horrified when I related the whole terrible story to her of my ordeal.
So thank you good Sam for my new (3 month) membership. And I hope things get a bit smoother for us in the future.
