Doesn't anyone see the chance for confusion? He goes to register and asks to renew his Good Sam card, clerk responds "you want a Good Sam card?" He says yep and bam, he gets a card.
Is there a chance that the clerk answered the question on the register wrong when prompted with "does customer want a Good Sam card?"
Maybe this guy doesn't realize that he incorrectly answered yes on the touch pad when it asked the question? I know I've seen that question pop up before. Clerk wouldn't know he didn't mean to apply for card.
I really don't see malfeasance, just misunderstandings, followed by nuclear anger and a reluctance to wait for the process to work out.
