Anyone ever call a Standby Sam member?

I've only been a Good Sam member since 2007, but my Dad was a member for many years. I am, and he was a Standby Sam member.
For those of you who don't know what Standby Sams are, here's from their web site:
The Good Sam Club is about service, helping out our fellow RVer, and that spirit is what fuels our Standby Sams program. Standby Sams are Good Sam members who volunteer to provide emergency advice and referrals to fellow members traveling through their area. This group has helped hundreds of Good Sam members over the years by providing contact information for local campgrounds, mechanics – even a good restaurant! We are pleased to report there are nearly 2,000 Standby Sams throughout the United States and Canada.

We have never been called on to help out a fellow RV'er. Has anyone here been called, or has called a Standby Sam member? If so, what was your experience?
BTW, Here's their site:Standby Sam Volunteering Directory
  • I've been a member of Good Sam Club for about 3 years and didn't know this program existed. It may be buried in the onslaught of brochures, emails, mailings, etc that I've received from them, but to be honest all of that stuff quickly becomes trash as soon as I receive it.
I use their discount at the store and at campgrounds. Guess I better go read up to see what else I'm missing.
  • I have never used them but have seen posts from the past about how well it worked and praising the people who did it.
  • No, I've never called. First I heard of them was in post yesterday.

I have info now. I think only time I would call is we broke down and looking for local info.

So... no offense to Stand By Sams, but I hope we never talk.

But I do appreciate your efforts very much and they sound like a valuable service.
  • I have been a Standby member for many years and have never been called.
