Bait & Switch

In February 2012 at the Camping World store in Fort Myers, Florida I was sold a 1 year extension to my Good Sam membership for $20.00 The deal was if you took the auto renew, it would auto renew for $20.00 as long as you kept the auto renew, which I did.
When I called today to give them a new credit card number, because the one they had was stolen & been re issued, I was told the rate is $22.00. I explained the Camping World deal I bought & when I bought it, and I have the original receipt but was told it is now $22.00
So next year probably 24 dollars, etc, etc.

Is that the old "Bait & Switch" sales technique, or was I just "Duped" by the Fort Myers Camping World.................

Anyone else get this deal there or anywhere else???

Marcus or any moderator out there want to comment??

  • I am always still stuck on being a member for ERS for eons and having to pay a higher price to renew than the promotions they actually send you. Their answer? Oh that promotion is only for 'new' members. You my friend and member for years have to pay the higher price.
  • The cheapest lifetime membership appears to be $299 for 68+ and Vets. I think I'll just renew for 3 yrs at a time.
  • Hello Whiskey River! Thank you for your post. Members who elect to participate in our Good Sam Club Automatic Renewal program enjoy extra savings at the time of enrollment and lock in the lowest annual renewal rate available. The program offers members the lowest one-year renewal rate that is currently available and not a guarantee for life. Members may cancel the automatic renewal process on their account at any time. We hope this clears up any confusion around our policy. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us at 1.800.234.3450 or through a private message. Thank you and have a good day!

  • The auto renew was originally $20, it is currently $22. I don't think you were guaranteed $20 each year for life.

One of the benefits of lifetime membership is no price increases. Of course the risk is if Good Sam folds the membership goes poof!
  • I am also enrolled in auto renew, but I believe the program only gives you a reduced rate, not a guaranteed rate. As the regular annual rate increases, you receive a renewal rate that is lower as long as you have auto renewal. At least, that is how it has worked for me for several years. At the time you signed up for auto renewal the regular rate was probably $22.00. The current regular annual rate is $25.00. I was charged $22.00 to renew in May of this year.
