Boats are RV's?

Dear Marcus,

When I first saw the cover picture of your May, June and July edition of HIGHWAYs MAGAZINE, I was shocked to see a picture of a boat on a trailer.

Now, it seems to me that when a Camping organization features a slick heavy-horse-powered speedboat on their magazine cover, you know that either they are teasing us with some clever wrinkle from up their sleeve, or they are hopelessly misguided as to what their readers are interested in seeing and reading about.

I leave it to you and other readers to come to their own conclusion as to what best applies in this case.

While I still treasure some parts of HIGHWAYS, I'd have to agree with others that if it hasn't already become an embarrassment, it should be.

'Tis time for HIGHWAYS to be pastured.

    Haypuller,

Thank you for your time and post. Just to clarify, the Roadside Assistance programs with Good Sam also protect Non-Recreational vehicles. Such as a boat on a trailer, automobiles, and motorcycles. If ever you have a question on the programs we have please call 24/7 800-842-5351.

I signed up and dumped AAA just for that reason. Bass boat and trailer coverage included.
  • We stayed on our first boat while traveling. Had a single holding tank and a pump out so we could use it in fresh water lakes. Remember stoping at Disney World in Fla. After looking us over a bit they decided we could not launch in their lakes?? Also always fun when traveling and staying in RV parks. Always lots of questions. 2nd boat was to big and wide for trailering. Did miss that part but loved the extra room, oven, deep freeze, king size beds ect. A part of our lives we will never forget.
  • I just look at the picture and laugh at the craptastic Photoshop work with the boat. Trailer looks like it is 2 inches off the ground, axle crooked, the fender all lopsided, and the boat almost in the back window.

  • There was guy at a local state park here in Nebraska that lived in his boat for 2 or 3 years, year around right through the winters. His boat was old probably about a 22 footer.
  • Does anybody believe that the OP who just joined the forum today is really serious? Just another troll.
  • Years ago there was a guy who camped in the infield of the Daytona 500 in an approx. 24 foot boat. Towed it in and parked it just like a RV.
  • We full timed in our boats for 10 years. Always felt they were RV's only better than the land RVs because we could spend time in the Bahamas. Also Great Lakes and down the east coast to Key West.. Also had our Airstream trailer for near 20 years and spent 10 of those full time.. Filp a coin as to whitch we liked best....
  • Bill and El used to fulltime on their c-dory. They took it all over the country, camping in it on land and water. We used ours for weekends and vacations, spending up to 10 days at a time in it. We plan on fulltiming in a land rv for a couple of years, then we want to switch to a sea rv for a couple of years. Towing a boat around is much easier than towing a tt or 5er and you can greatly increase your places to camp. As long as you can get around the lack of storage, it's a great way to see the country.
