Can't change tire on dually

A couple of weeks ago I was in VA ready to leave a campground and I needed a tire changed that was flat. The person called me that was going to change it to let me know he was on the way. When I told him it was a dually he said he could not change a dually tire and cancelled. I was floored to say the least. I ended up changing it myself. When my renewal comes through I am going to talk to Coachnet. I bought this service to take care of this very type of thing-very disappointing.BTW Good Sams person was told it was a dually.
  • Gee, I would have called GSERS back and told them what happened and asked them to find a provider that absolutely would change a dually. You could have talked to a supervisor about this.
  • Thank you for the post, mobilecastle. My name is Frank and I am a member of the Good Sam Roadside Assistance Team. I apologize that we were unable to meet your expectations during your disablement. I would like the opportunity to speak with you concerning your complaint. Please send me a private message providing your Good Sam Roadside Assistance and contact information. I will contact you, and I look forward to speaking with you. Thank you, Frank
  • When I started full-timing 7 years ago I had roadside insurance with Good Sam, Progressive RV and USAA which covers my RV for roadside. We had a dually-flat both tires out on I-40 about a hour East of Barstow as a January evening arrived. Well we called GS first and told them about our two flats so we needed another tire as well, however no one showed for many hours. We called and they said they we're looking for someone for us in some small town clear out toward Las Vegas! We then called USAA who said they were sending someone now from Barstow, while on the phone with USAA, GS called and said the person is on his way. So we cancelled the USAA call since they hadn't left yet. After midnight the tow truck arrived without a spare! So in the end we put our single spare on and limped to Barstow. Needless to say I no longer use Good Sam they got one year of service from me and that's it. Now I depend on Progressive and USAA and they have never let me down.

Did GSRA send someone else out?
The first call my wife made the GS representative said it would 2+ hrs until someone could come. I was ready to leave the campground. It was going to be too long of a wait since I needed to get on the road. She then called back with the second one who could come in about 45 minutes-he called me about 1/2 hr later to let me know he was on his way. He is the one who said he could not change a dually and canceled the call. After all of this I decided to do it myself.
  • If you talk to coach net they will tell you they are WONDERFUL... They DO NOT have a forum where people can let off a little steam. In many areas of the country it will be the same persons doing GS/Coachnet ,etc...

Another problem I find over the years is the ME generation that think they are the only problem out there and as soon as they phone, the service truck should be pulling out their tools and have you on your way in minutes.
  • Posts like these are so common which is why I carry everything required to change a tire. Every minute you spend stranded along side the highway or interstate your lives are at risk. I cannot imagine being told it will be hours until help arrives and just sitting meekly on the shoulder waiting for some fool to kill us all.

Yes I have ERS, Coachnet, which I have never needed and hope I never will but I have changed and repaired three flats and a blowout on our TT each time spending no more than 15 or 20 minutes doing so. A trip to Harbor Freight can get you everything you'll need for around $100 (100 psi compressor, jack stand, bottle jack, torque wrench and repair/plug kit). No the tools are not high end but you will have them when needed which hopefully won't be often.

Do you have a spare? When was the last time you checked it? Can you bust loose the lugs on your tires? Have you ever tried? Practice under controlled, safe non emergency conditions such as in your driveway or a parking lot some time. Knowing you can do the job safely keeps a poor ERS response from needlessly jeopardizing your lives. Like they say in the Boy Scouts.... :C

+1 including the tools from Harbor Freight. I have GSRA and still have the tools in case. I hope I never have to use them but I will if GSRA cannot send someone to me.
  • I want everyone to know GSRS did reach out to me. I think that is a sign of good service. I own my own company and things do happen that are the exception not the rule. I will give them a second chance as everyone deserves one. I hope if I need them in the future they come through.
