Charged for miscellaneous shop supplies

Hi, we just had our motor homes in for extended warranty service at CW, which was approved. Everything was completed to our satisfaction, the gen set works well now.

I was charged, in addition to the deductible, for shop supplies.I mentioned this to the service tech, that I though the deductible covered anything on their end and he repeated that it was for their shop supplies based on the amount of time they worked on it. He adjusted it somewhat, and The charge is fairly nominal, but after reviewing the contract again, the don't see why we should be charged additional fees. I'm concerned about the value of the plan if we have to worry about additional charges.

  • And finally we get the "results" from a resolution to a problem. Typically, GS requests a private message and we NEVER hear the results. Good to see that maybe they are changing their procedures...... or maybe this is just a one time deal.

    We'll see.

    DCS7,

I agree with you 100%. If you took your RV to a Good Sam Preferred Provider, which of course Camping World is, you should not have any out of pocket expenses beyond your deductible for covered repairs. This is part of our insurer's agreement with Camping World and all other Preferred Providers. Obviously, someone did not get the memo in this case.

Please fax or e-mail me your invoice with the shop supplies and I will get a reimbursement out to you ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Now that is a resolution I like :B

  • Can't remember if I was charged shop supplies, but I was charged for shipping of a slide motor (beyond the $50 deductible) that they replaced under my extended warranty. It was less than $20, but I think that is kind of crappy. The warranty company is going to pay to replace the motor and even pay for the motor, but it's up to us to pay their shipping rate on it? Heck, I probably could of ordered it on Amazon with my Prime membership, got free shipping and it there in 2 days.
  • I would refuse to pay this charge. The worst they can do is keep your RV and then they will get to make the payments, Insurance, and taxes. You will be "scott free" because they took your RV for a frivolous charge. Gouging is not allowed as per CW regulations.

The charge for "Shop Supplies" is industry wide and is the shops way of increasing their profit margin with no real expenditure. Shop supplies cover everything from the rag the mechanic cleans his hands with to the penetrating spray used to free up a rusted bolt.
Also covers grease, brake cleaner and a hundred other things that the shop has to PAY for. Some shops do charge way to much for this and do use it for a profit booster. CW is one of those.

Don't forget the hazardous waste removal fee.
