Combo RV/auto insurance

Got a real good price from Good Sam for coverage on my RV and vehicles. Need help. Anyone have this coverage and experience with how they handle claims?

I know in my State of Colorado, you can contact the Department of Regulatory Agencies, (DORA), and they take such complaints against insurance companies seriously. I had to once, and I got a call to process my complaint the following morning, as soon as the State agency contacted the insurance company, the service turned from bad, to great.

This is a good suggestion. But keep in mind that many state insurance regulatory agencies are merely creatures of the insurance companies and are NOT consumer focused or friendly. It's definitely a state by state thing.

But I would be inclined to report none-the-less.

  • I have had GS auto insurance for over 4 years. My situation: lower cost than my previous and a couple others. One large incident, they took care of immediately without out of pocket cost other than deductible, and a couple glass claims. I continue to give them $$$ and so far have done me well. Surcharge for large accident due to our fault as legalities go, but it is what it is. So far we are satisfied. Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !
  • I wouldn't have NGI based on the stories I have heard. But having been in accident recently where the other party (who was at fault) had NGI, I will say they took pretty good care of me. The only complaint is that the person handling the injury claim was hard to get a hold of. We played a good bit of phone tag. But it all worked out.
  • Good Evening aandm,
I am sorry to hear about your truck. Can you send me a private message with your contact information and the names of any representatives you have that you have been in contact with. I want to escalate your issue to the executive desk for investigation and follow up.

Thank you...Rudy, Good Sam Response Team.
  • Up until recently, I would have said that I have had no problems with the National General Insurance I got through Good Sam. However, that has changed after filing my first claim with them. Someone punched or drilled a hole in my gas tank to steal gas. The police actually woke me up at 5:30 am on Sunday. A neighbor had scared off the thieves and called them. So, it seems like a pretty straight forward comprehensive claim. It will be a smaller dollar amount and I would prefer them to pay the dealer for the work directly.

So, I called on Monday morning to submit my claim. While the agent taking my claim showed no empathy, the process was quick and easy. I was assigned an adjuster and he told me she would be in touch to guide me through the process.

Later, that same afternoon I get an email from a different person saying that she will be handling my claim. She attached an affidavit to fill out and said that she assigned a field representative to look at my truck. She also requested that I call her.

The next day, I tried contacting her several times and left a voicemail in the main box to make sure she was in the office (you can’t get a hold of a real person). A field representative never contacted me. The affidavit she said had to be filled out in full, is highly invasive. It requires me to authorize them to investigate me and gives them control over my vehicle. I do not think that I should have to sign away my rights in order for them to pay a claim.
In the meantime, my truck sits in its parking spot with no gas. Any gas put in it would just leak out. It is unsafe to drive it. So, while I wait for them, I cannot drive my truck and could not move it in an emergency.

So, I would say it is fine to get National General Insurance as long as you never file a claim. You won’t be able to contact anyone in order to get information about your claim. Good luck getting someone to look at your vehicle as they don’t give you contact information and all you get is voicemail.

Sorry this is so long. But, I would advise anyone considering this insurance to completely evaluate the company’s claims processing.
