Complimentary Good Sam Membership-1 Year?

In today's mail, I received a letter from GS that said they have awarded me a complimentary membership good through 3/2017. It included 2 cards with my name and an assigned membership number on them. (Note: These don't appear to be the "fake" cards I've received before where signing up and paying for membership is requested). The letter also included a coupon for $10 that expires in a couple of months.

I was a member about 5 or more years ago but didn't renew, yet the new card says that I've been a member since 2011. (??????????)
Have others received such an offer? Is there a catch?

It appears that I don't have to do anything else, although the letter encourages you to register online with them "to continue taking advantage of all the benefits that the Club has to offer." Or is there some kind of "activation" that needs to be done to the card?

I am disinclined to do that.
Can I still use the card they issued to me for swipe & save gas discounts and at the Camping World store (about 2.5 hours away, in the big city).

Any info/advice is appreciated. Thanks.

  • I have been a GS member for quite a while and do shop at the stores as well as on line, We also have the road service and insurance too, the savings are good,
LP gas has a good savings on the two days a week, also free empty of holding tanks.
service is good and we also use the Flying J /Pilot card for the gas savings.
  • OK. Response from Ella is in.
Just thought I'd fill folks in.

Card is live when issued. No need to activate or register. Can be used as is.
I appreciated the prompt response from the forum moderators.
  • Thanks for the responses.
I've got a PM in with Ella, of the Good Sam Care Team, so I'll also see what she has to tell me.
  • The only thing you need to be cautious about is "registering" on line. They may ask for credit card information and you will then be signed up for automatic renewal.

Unless you buy tons of stuff from Camping World (Amazon usually has it cheaper and with free shipping {over $35 or Prime members}) or you camp tons of times at commercial Good Sam campgrounds, there is little advantage to the membership. The discount for fuel at Flying J is often sporadic and better cash back is available from many credit card providers.
  • I got the same one back in 2014,good for a year only for Roadside service. It is the real deal.

Used the coupon and the road service for the free year and when they sent me a renewal I declined,I have AAA RV.

They go back to the year you originally became a member.

I became a member in 1990,when I sold my RV I quit being a member, when I got my present RV I rejoined and their records showed that that I had been a member from 1990 that is what it says on my card, even with a 7 year gap.
  • Hello dewey02, thank you for your time, I will be glad to look into this. Can you send me a private message with your contact phone number and the number on the cards.

    Thank you,
    Ella
  • Probably NOT a catch. We were Camping World's members for a while, then let it lapse. After a couple years we got a free complementary membership card for Good Sam in the mail too. We used it at Camping World, found out there's only 1 membership now. Well, after that year, we renewed the membership, especially when we realized it could be used at Good Sam campgrounds for a discount. Last year, the paid membership returned it's value more than double for Good Sam Campground fees.

If you have a Camping World somewhere close to you, take it and see if it works! And... why not take advantage of the coupons?
