Covered or not

I recently noticed some hydraulic fluid near the front driver's side tire. Upon inspection it would appear that there is a leaking hydraulic line going to that side's leveler. I have a GSESP that was purchased from CW along with the RV when new in January, 2013. The plan is still in effect. This morning I called the GSESP office to inquire whether or not the leaking line is covered. The answer I was given was that the repair place would have to find the cause of the leak then submit the claim to GSESP for the approval. Unacceptable answer. Later this morning I contacted the local CW to find out if they could tell me if the repair will be covered. The Service Manager at the CW told me essentially the same things as the GSESP customer service had. It seems to me that someone should be able to define what is covered and what isn't. Is this rocket science?

This is giving me pause as to whether I should have purchased the plan.

  • Yea, insurance and extended service plans are full of loop holes. Any way they can find the exception, they sure do.

Wind damage took shingles off the roof of my mother's house. Insurance covered the claim for replacing the shingles. Contractor came out for the estimate. Said the wood under the shingles needed to be replaced too. Insurance paid for the shingles, but not the wood holding on the shingles. They said there was no wind damage to the wood, but the wood had to be replaced to hold the shingles. Mom ended paying out-of-pocket the cost for the wood.

There's always loop holes. I don't like extended warranties.

    Thank you,

Someone will need to look at it to figure out what is leaking they just can not give you a definite yes or no. That said how do they not know that you ran over some thing to cause the problem. Just saying. Take it in to a repair facility that has worked with extended warranties like Good Sam.

  • I'm not an expert, not even a good novice, but I can give you an example from previous experience with extended warranties. If the leak is a gasket or a seal it probably is NOT covered. If the lead is a faulty hose it may be covered. If the leak is due to a bad motor or piston it is probably covered. It will take a technician to inspect the problem to give you and idea what to ask. I don't believe the GS contracted policy has consequential damage coverage...most policies do not. That means if the problem is caused by a covered part but is not a covered part, it is not covered. You will probably have to have the leak fixed at your own expense, and if the part turns out to be a covered part, you can call for an authorization for repair. YOU MUST GET PRIOR AUTHORIZATION BEFORE THE REPAIR IS COMPLETED...MUST, MUST, MUST. This will usually mean a day to diagnose the problem, a day to get authorization, and a day for repair...at least.
    Good Luck
  • They are very picky as to what they cover. I had a Norcold refrigerator cooling unit that went bad. The service center said that they had done several of them under the GS service plan. When they contacted GS to get the approval they wanted pictures of the cooling unit. After they sent them they refused to cover it because there was some rust on the coils of the unit. Of course it is exposed to the elements and that is normal to have rust. $1800 out of pocket for me.
