I think that statement is rather naive.
Many of the "cashiers" I've encountered at CW remind me of used car salespersons.
Stories like these makes me think that they are purposely trained to dance right on the line of ethical/unethical/illegal behavior.......and maybe even encouraged to make up their own methods.
While I think the OP might not remember the fine details exactly, I have NO DOUBT that he was scammed into doing something that he didn't want to do. I am presented with a similar spiel every time I go there.
