Except for GS/CW, when I've called all of the rest of catalog and junk mailers, they've taken us off their mailing lists. We get almost no junk mail anymore to pile up while we're gone. GS/CW just can't seem to figure it out.
I watched a couple of Marcus' shows the other night where he goes around buying small businesses and fixing them. Seems to be a smart guy. He stresses People, Processes and Profit. All that I can say is there's still a lot of Processes that need to be fixed at GS/CW. You should always fix the low hanging fruit first - easy things with quick returns. To fix the wasted mailing process would save them a lot of money. Maybe someone there has a yearly goal of increasing mailings by 10%. Therefore the last thing they want to do stop any of them. Again - a bad Process.
On sort of the reverse, if they'd mail people out their membership cards in a reasonable time, they'd have a lot more happy customers.....
And since I'm on a little bit of a rant about junk mail, the only people you can't stop it from is the USPS. You'll get a local pizza shop that pays the USPS to mail their adds to everyone in a certain zip code. After a lot of calls to them, they basically gave two answers, they didn't want to loose any revenue by not sending me the pizza mailing and even if they wanted to, their computer system is so outdated, they can't eliminate certain addresses.
