More to the point of closing threads vs letting them die...this is an interesting question. I too have noticed the tendency of some moderators to close certain threads while leaving other more obnoxious ones go on to die a natural death.
All threads will have a very short half life generally speaking and wither and die usually very soon as they fall down the topics list.
I have noticed that there is at least one moderator who shall remain nameless that routinely either deletes comments or closes threads by certain members even though the thread has clearly not run it's course.
The most suspect reason I see from some moderators for closing a thread is that it "had nothing more to say". This is usually a sign to me that the moderator just disagrees with the thread altogether.
I think it should be the policy to let threads die a natural death unless they clearly violate either the spam rule, language or advertising rules.
Too often I find that some moderators...only a very few, cannot seem to distinguish between Satire and Sarcasm, and don't seem to understand the differences between Irony, Analogy, Euphemism and Metaphor and at times have mistaken them for being OFF Topic comments when in fact they were some of the most telling and ON-Topic comments made in the whole thread.
Do the moderators have to pass a basic English test?
In general I agree many threads are closed too soon and sometimes it seems as if there is an agenda lurking in the background.
