ERS isn't the same as it used to be.

I have had Good Sam road service for many years and it has been great the couple of times that I used them to "repair" flat tires, until this last time.
I had a flat tire(nail in the tread)this past April and called Good Sam. They informed me that they would not let any of their service providers repair the tire. I would have to purchase a new one for $700(I had bought new ones 2 years ago for $400). I told them to forget it as I wasn't going to pay $700 for a tire. I called one of ERS's service providers, and they came out and repaired the tire with a DOT approved patch for commercial trucks. They charged me a total of $95 for the service call and the repair.

The only thing I can figure is that ERS has made a deal with their service providers to sell a new tire at a ridiculous price and then ERS gets a kickback on the price of the tire to offset the bill for the roadside service.

I'm wondering if CoachNet may be better coverage.

What kind of policy do you have? I pay a 1 time annual premium for my ERS, no deductibles per call.
  • Just read my GEICO magazine over the weekend and they have ERS also. Also extended warranties. GEICO ERS was great when it was just having cars.

I got a 3 yr ERS with Good Sam to save some money, but like you they don't seem to be as helpful. We just came back from a 2 month trip and needed to call them several times. One time the operator suggested I check a few things first and talked me thru on what to do. I don't remember now what it was, but it turned out they still had to send someone out. Of course the two times we had to have work done, it was less than the deductible. I am taking it to my mechanic next month to fix the dash a/c.

When we first started driving in 2009, the operators we helpful to this beginner. I'm no expert since I do not go out as often as I would like.
  • I think that is why GS ERS is showing more profits. Budget cuts and more kick backs like your tire as an example. How can a guy on the phone at GS ERS know that you need a new tire unless its push new tires even if not needed. I'm thinking of also going to Coach Net.
