Extended Service Plan while under warranty

I recently purchased a new fifth wheel and even opted for the Good Sam Extended Service Plan for reasons which make sense to me. I have a "What if" I would like to have answered by the Care Team. Let's assume I have travelled to a Resort/Rv park and have an issue which would normally be covered by the warranty. Let's also assume there is not a dealer for my type unit within 50 or so miles. Or, let's simply assume I do not have a relationship with a local dealer and wish to call a mobile RV repair tech.

1. Can I have the unit repaired by a mobile RV repair tech? If yes, how do I take care of the bill?

2. If I need service while my unit is in my own storage facility, can I use a mobile RV repair tech? If yes, how do I take care of this bill?

  • You need to follow the service contract guidelines. I think the service contract may subrogate the repair back to the factory for reimbursement when possible. Also many components have longer warranty by the component manufacturer than the oem builder warranty.

Anyway don't go thinking you just call a guy out and send them the bill.
  • I am appreciating and enjoying all of the comments from readers. However, I noticed this statement below the heading for the topic: "Ask Marcus if you have questions, concerns or praise about your Good Sam Extended Service Plan." I'm sure the 'care team' will be interested in providing an answer soon.
  • Save the money you would spend on the extended warranty in a bank, collect the interest and IF you need it you have the money to write the check. Many many repairs can be done by the owner and save thousands. You won't keep it long enough to wear it out.
  • Read your policy, hopefully for the second time, but slower this time. Follow the policy's directions on what to do if you have an issue. If you don't they probably won't pay.
  • Those are great questions that probably should have been asked before deciding. Hopefully you’ll come back later to update everyone who may be thinking of buying a service plan for their RV.
  • You would need to use an RV tech that is authorized by the extended warranty.
Or, get pre-approval for the repair.

In an emergency type repair, you will have to pay for it then fight to get reimbursed.
