Good Roadside Assistance

Hello everyone...It was bound to happen. This is the beginning of the 4th summer of having our TT. All has been pretty well during our travels until 3 days ago, when we experienced our first tire blowout. I am pretty anal about taking good care of our trailer - tire pressure always check, wheel bearing repacked every other year, Trailer covered when stored, etc. Our trailer didn't come with the spare, so I decided if I had a tire problem, AAA could help. Well the tire blew out so bad it damaged part of the under carriage, yanked the electric Trailer brakes on the axle and destroyed the wheel. AAA told me they would be there in 60 minutes. After 30 minutes they called and said no one was available. Really? Fortunately, a Les Schwab was in the area and came out 3 1/2 hours laters (ugh!) I had my tire and wheel replaced for 300 bucks and was able to repair my trailer brake at my next destination. My question is, Is there a better roadside assistance? If would have been a Sunday, Les Schwab would have been closed and I would have essentially been stranded with my family. What are my options for roadside assistance. And Yes...I am buying a spare tire and wheel! Thanks for any advice you can give in regards to a good roadside assistance service.

  • The roadside assistance is only as good as the "contract" facility in your area. Some are great, some, as you have found, are horrible. I had a bad experience with CoachNet not finding service in my area of need, so I now have Good Sam. Hope I never need them. At just over $100/year it is just comfort insurance. If a good provider cannot be found then you already found the next option of calling a local service provider yourself. As noted, many insurance policies also include roadside assistance. I guess I really have 3 different insurance options, as I have Good Sam, and Extended Warranty with assistance, and my insurance has a number. And if all else fails, I have a cell phone and Google.

  • So you pay $100 per year for roadside service, and you haven't used it in four years. $400 will go a long way for paying for a private tow truck to come assist you. Not only that, did you check to see if you have towing on your vehicle insurance? If so, it would reimburse you for the cost of a private tow.
  • Your options are
    Good Sam
    Coachnet
You will have either bad or good service with either one.
I have had good service so far from Good Sam but there have been waits for service which you appear to be unhappy with "Fortunately, a Les Schwab was in the area and came out 3 1/2 hours laters (ugh!)"

So pick one and try it.
As you hear people slam good sam remember the other services have no forums to complain on so the views will be slanted against good sam
