I own a 2002 Country Coach Intrigue with a Cummins 370 ISL engine. It came with a composite (fiberglass) oil pan. The truck pan would not fit due to the low mounting of the engine in the Dynamax frame. The pan started to leak (2013) where the return oil return line fitting was fashioned into it. Per Cummins the composite pan is no longer sold (obsolete)and is replaced with a steel oil pan. The original pan cost $545.63. The steel pan conversion kit cost $1726.17 through Country Coach. After filing all the parts and labor invoices with Good Sam Extended Service Plan, I received a check for $1747.64. The reimbursed me only the original price of the composite pan siting that their policy is to pay for only original equipment replacement not upgraded parts. I sent them a fax copy from Cummins stating that the composite pan is no longer available and that the steel pan is now the standard. (not an upgrade). GSEW's answer to this was the policy pays for only original parts, even if they are obsolete. My total repair bill was $4863.52. I was reimbursed only $1747.64. Great policy! Seems to me that GSEW needs to update (not upgrade) their part replacement policy. I imagine there are a lot of older RV owners who think they are completely covered. By the way I am a life time member of GS and have most of the available coverages. Hope I don't need to use them.

Most of those extended plans are a rip off including GS plan. You will see a few RVers, very few, do collect. The rest just pay in. Almost all profit selling extended service plans. I have bought several. Never collected. They use the fine print to escape paying. Most of the stuff they cover doesn't fail. Very clever on their part. If they have a recurring problem they drop it from coverage. Notice how their contracts change?

If the part is no longer available, how did they arrive at their price? They should pay the current value for a replacement part, but since it is not available, what do they use to establish today's value?In this case you are right- they owe you for today's cost of the current replacement part.Your experience is typical- they have every excuse not to pay.

Whatever their contract says is what you bought. They may help out with some customer goodwill but don't count on it again.

I bought the GSEWP and with two claims it pad for itself. Just thought I'd throw that in. You only hear of the bad and never the good.

From what I read, they will not pay to make it operable again as a normal insurance co. would do. They will take the cheapest way out. I deal with obsolete parts everyday and have never seen an insurance co. do that. Most of these service agreements are nothing but a rip off to start with but GS seems to be the worst.

This is similar to your auto insurance when you total a vehicle that is older, you will not be provided with similar but brand new vehicle, you will be paid the value of the insured vehicle, not the value of a similar new vehicle.

Most insurance companies have been offering coverage to replace a car completely with a new car - as an example Allstate offers New Car Replacement as an additional option with its Your Choice Auto® insurance plan.. Like so many companies it's what you are willing to pay for and the insurance companies are happy to accept the $$ if you want the additional coverage.

GSESP is insuring the value of the part as it is on that vehicle. If that part fails, the liability of the policy is for up to the full value of that part. When the manufacturer replaces a part with a more expensive solution (metal vs fiberglass in this case), we will apply the full value of the existing part plus labor to the cost of the replacement.

I had to use it twice. Once was for my refrigerator cooling unit and they refused to cover it because of rust on coils. other was for brake wheel sensors which they did cover!
