Good Sam Swipe and Save vs. Pilot/Flying J RV rewards

I know this involves a Good Sam benefit but I think discussion might be valuable for all RVers. Here is what I see comparing the "Good Sam Swipe and Save" card against the "Pilot/Flying J RV Rewards" card;

This is for the USA, the discounts vary in Canada.

"Good Sam Swipe and Save card"
http://www.goodsamclub.com/pfj/
$0.03 discount off each gallon of gasoline or diesel
$0.05 discount off each gallon of propane fuel
$2.50 off dumping fee (regularly $10)

"Pilot/Flying J RV Rewards card"
https://myrewards.pilotflyingj.com/rv_customer.aspx
$0.02 discount off each gallon of gasoline
$0.03 discount off each gallon of diesel
$0.10 discount off each gallon of propane fuel
$5.00 off dumping fee (regularly $10)

The "Good Sam Swipe and Save" gives a penny larger discount on gasoline but loses when compared to the discount on dumping and LPG. The "Pilot/Flying J RV Rewards" card also gives other store and restaurant pricing and discount benefits.

I use PNC Bank rewards Visa card for gasoline purchases which pays a reward of 4% at ALL gasoline stations. At a price of $3 per gallon that is a reward of $0.12 per gallon or $0.16 at $4 per gallon, which handily beats the "Good Sam RV Plus" charge card. I realize that not everyone has rewards cards so the Good Sam charge card may be an option for those people.

Did I miss anything? Any thoughts/comments?

  • Is the Flying 'Rewards Card' the same as the Flying J 'Frequent Fueler'?
  • At Flying J/Pilot, we use the FJ RV Rewards card, combined with the 5% fuel cash rebate from our PenFed Visa card. At $3.00/gallon, that's an $0.18/gallon pay at the pump savings. The PenFed cash reward card also works at non-FJ/Pilot fuel stops as well, of course.
  • Good Sam has access to your bank account with their card, Flying J does NOT......Your choice.
  • I get .08 discount on Diesel with the Good Sam / Pilot Card
(We have been GS Life members for many years)

Still not as good as your 4% rebate / discount with your PNC Visa card.

I do not dump or buy propane at Flying J / Pilot, rarely even go in the store, I Get in, Get Fuel, Get Out :)
Since we use Diesel, most of the time we use the truck lanes when pulling the 5th Wheel. Sure is much easier to get in and out.
