I also wondered how this worked as we have had it for two years. This summer I almost had to use it to bring the motorhome home.
It turned out we didn't need to,but I learned a little bit more about how it works in the process.
I called the number, explained the medical issue and that I did not drive the motorhome. They opened a case and emailed me a form to complete. The form mostly did not apply, since my husband had not been hospitalized, just told by his doctor at home to fly home immediately and not drive 2000 miles for a week.
I called back and to request a return of RV, I just needed a letter from a doctor on his letter head saying my husband could not drive the rv home due to a medical condition. The parts of the form I needed to complete were the details on the motorhome, where it was, where to deliver, where the keys would be.
I learned that once the form and dr note was faxed or sent to them, tney would make arrangements to have a professional service pick it up and deliver it. And it could take up to 10 days before it was picked up.
This was going to be an issue for me as the campground was full for the upcoming weekend, so it could not stay there, I could not drive it somewhere else, and the KOA campground staff wouldn't for liability reasons. I was able to find am RV storage place nearby, and probably could have gone around asking other motorhome owners if they would drive it to storage for me. And we did have family in town would could keep the keys, just not drive it.
They also will bring back your toad too but only if it is attached to the motorhome and ready to go; they will not hook it up. This might have been another issue as I doubt the storage site was long enough for both.
If I could have extended in the RV park, these would not have been issues.
The primary service provided is medical return home. To qualify for that, you must have been hospitalized and the doctor must complete the form saying you cannot travel home in your vehicle, and provide a lot of medical details on your condition and travel assistance needs.
When I called the Travel Assist number, it was reassuring that the staff agreed the Good Sam plan covered rv return without having to be hospitalized, as that is the reason I bought it over other offerings.
As it turned out, we would have needed to find a doctor locally to get the letter, and my husband decided to go to the town's emergency room to get another doctor to evaluate him. They admitted him, did a lot more tests and then decided it was not serious after all and he could drive home.
Unfortunately, I think all these plans are deliberately vague as to what they cover under what circumstance, and even reading all their plan documents don't help much. But I did learn something about GS TA thru this process that is somewhat reassuring. Like all insurance, you really hope you'll never need to use it.
PS. This is our second year and the price did not go up. And I think you can still get the small savings for signing up even if you call after 10 days. They will just send you another offer anyway. And I think the savings was like $10.
