Good Sam Trip Planner

What good is an RV Trip Planner that will alert you that there are low clearances on the route but not automatically route you around them?
The Good Sam Trip Planner needs to have an input for height and propane and route accordingly - not tell me I need to drag the route someplace else. If I knew where to drag the route, I would not need the trip planner.

(And this was not a few warnings but fifty miles of warnings with icons completely covering a major part of the route. And each time I dragged around one, it rerouted back to the same road at the next entrance!)

I expect a lot more from an RV specific trip planner from Good Sam!

  • Just discovered this nifty tool. I'm still exploring its features.
Once I get the route established with a few waypoints how do I locate potential places to stay about every 250-300 miles apart along the route? Is there an easy to use automated distance measuring tool I can lay along the route to search out good stopping places? Maybe something like a virtual tape measure I can drag along the route to measure mileage between two points on the route?
  • I recently signed into Good Sam website to view/edit 5 trips I had saved about 2 months ago. All the trips had disappeared. I emailed Good Sam with NO response. Anyone having the same issue or aware of a resolution?
  • haven't had a problem dragging and rerouting for me. usually reroutes just fine
  • The yellow triangle on the map is useless if you don't know how to get around it. If using the GS trip planner for car trips, just use Google maps and get directions. If it is an RV trip planner it should plan trips for an RV. If the answer is go buy a Good Sam GPS then why bother having a Good Sam Trip Planner?
  • Hello 1775,

The Trip Routing program is intended to take you the most direct route from point to point. If the route gives you a warning, that will allow the user the freedom to alter the route to their preference. Keep in mind, if you have selected to avoid highways and/or toll roads, than you may find more warnings.

At the current time, only the Good Sam GPS will allow you to specify an RV Type; i.e. Class A, Travel Trailer, etc. I thank you for bringing this to our attention and will forward this to the team that handles the Trip Routing Planner.

Thank you again for your time,

  • Sometimes people do plan trips without taking along their RV. In those instances there would be no need to reroute around low overhead situations. We have used this service many times for travel without the Montana. Tim
