Not a scam at all. I have had my membership and roadside assistance on auto renew for several years. I get one membership reminder a year approximately one month before renewal time at which time I have the option of cancelling. I believe by using this option you get a guaranteed rate with no increase in fees. It may not be for everybody, but it works for me. It's possible that you may not remember, but sometime in the past you agreed to the auto renew option.
