As I posted in another forum this practice I beleive is called churning.
If they can get you to renew early they shorten the lifetime of your first membership, thus getting paid the full term amount for fewer months than originally agreed upon. If they continue with this over the years of your membership pretty soon you will be paying the full price for half the length of time.
AARP has this down to a science.
This is also a way to increase cashflow.
Call them on the phone and demand they lengthen your new membership by the amount of time left on your previous membership and if they refuse I would cancel. (At least I would) Or give you a pro-rated refund of the unused months. If everyone did this, this practice would stop dead in it's tracks.
