I just want to point out a few things in my defense. I really did just buy the truck a few weeks before our trip, and I didn't have time to get used to the quirks of the new truck. As someone pointed out, it seems that the gauges are not to be trusted as I ran out of fuel very soon after the light came on. Stupid me for letting it get that low in the first place though.
Also as mentioned, I paid for a service that promised it would deliver me fuel. They did not. It is many magnitudes easier to at least try fuel first rather than send what I imagine would have to be two heavy tow trucks, and then what, we spend the night in a hotel, or in our trailer in the garage parking lot? Crazy
Frankly I didn't know until I read the previous post that I was entitled to fuel delivery regardless of it being a diesel. If I had know that I would have demanded the fuel. Perhaps I should submit my receipt for the $30 (highway robbery, literally) that I paid for the gas can at the station.
Also correct is the fact that my wife will never let me forget it
