Don't underestimate how someone can steal your identity with junk mail! We know of someone that had those free credit cards sent and threw all junk mail away in their general garbage that is how the legal weasels initially tracked that their ID was compromised. Seven years later that same person is suffering from stolen ID and it's hugely affected many areas of their lives.
Do absolutely anything and everything you can to avoid any form of ID theft irrespective of what others say about paranoia We used to feel it was over the top worrying too much, but having met more than one that had their ID's compromised and seeing the ongoing years later affect it's had on them, we shred absolutely everything, and even that's not enough in this day and age to avoid it!
Only time after 18 years my credit card was compromised was after using a supposedly secure online payment platform. Never again will I do online purchases from websites - my credit card got compromised three times in three months yet nothing for the previous 18 years = go figure.
Call it paranoia call it what you want it is serious business - in this day and age with all the online banking it's getting easier and easier to steal an ID and once labelled such, you try and lead a normal life again after the fact. Ignorance isn't always bliss!
