We have Good Sam but I wouldn't use them to change a tire. When I had a blowout, I also limped to the off ramp and felt fairly safe changing the tire. Between the two of you, maybe you could get the tire changed quickly. If the area felt unsafe because of the traffic, call the state police, call 911 and tell them it's a non-emergency first. See if they would come standby and block part of the lane while you change the tire.
But, I agree with you. If they treated me like that, I would be mad also. Next time, tell them you're carrying bodies, drugs, money, a giraffe, etc...
