How long is the wait for assistance supposed to take?

We had a blowout on our tow dolly in South Carolina I-95 Exit 49 Northbound. Called and finally got through to roadside assistance (took about 15 minutes), and they took me through the normal questions. They did get the exit number wrong, even though I said it multiple times and quite clearly.

Thing is the exit was only off by 4 miles, so it wouldn't affect arrival time by much.

My assistance came 90 plus minutes after the call. Is this normal response? I could put some gear in my RV and change the tow dolly tire in about 20 minutes. I had a spare with rim. I will always carry spares, so there's no issue.

Was my experience atypical? This is my first experience with ANY call for roadside with my RV. Never had to with my Trailer.

Thx

90 minutes! That's a ridiculous wait for assistance. I bet either Coachnet or AAA would have had someone there in an hour and a half.

    still chuckling. TY. :W
  • First they have to process your 'claim'
Then they have to get authorization to contact approved vendor (tow company etc)
Then approved vendor has to check schedules & availability
    Request is sent to dispatcher
Dispatch contacts driver and gives them the new assignment/directions
    Driver continues with pre-arranged schedule
Driver THEN heads in your direction.....and you are not at the exit
    Driver calls dispatch.

    Process starts all over

And YET it only took 90 minutes.

So, what did they tell you as an ETA when you called? Did you call them back after the ETA had expired?
I would say response time varies with every call to them, based on their policy as stated in the benefits brochure. Things like time of day, breakdown location, availability of appropriate service personnel and vehicles will all factor into it.
The few times I've called them, they've been pretty close to their suggested ETA, or they've called back to explain the delay.
