Why would the park want to do that?

Maybe they don't want to police whether or not a 50 amp rig in a 50 amp site actually did use the 30 amp adapter. Maybe they don't want the other guests to be speculating about why someone got a 50 amp site when they don't qualify. But even more likely, they want to keep the 50 amp sites open and available for those who pay for them.

Rob, TT has specials for non-members to come and try out their park. Usually find them at RV shows, some dealers will have coupons for the trial stay. BTW, a lot of TT give PassportAmerica discounts during off season times.

OP, It can be worse than a few dollars or a 30A site rather than a 50A site. My wife and I have been researching Campgrounds/RV parks and RV Resorts for next winter. Not knowing any better, we called a place that had the Thousand Trails logo on their website. We were told we can't even stay there without being a member. I don't mean stay there for up to two weeks for free like members can. I mean At All! They wouldn't even tell us the cost per month to stay there for TT members unless we bought a membership first. How are you supposed to know if it's worth buying a membership if you can't find out the cost for an extended stay? We just avoid those places altogether now. Way too many other places to stay that are wonderful and gladly will rent you a spot.

Coast to coast sites cost about $10-15 per night.
For the discounted rate it appears you are only allowed to use 30 amp sites.

OP probably made reservations through one of those listed clubs at a substantial discount, and not being the "home park" was assigned a discounted site (30 amp). Upon arrival they found that out, and were told if they used their 10% Good Sam discount instead, they would be given a 50 amp site for $37.80 per night ($42.00 normal rate less 10%) which was a few bucks more than the 30 amp site the OP was assigned through the other club membership.

Then the OP apparently tried to get moved to a 50 amp site for the same rate by using only 30 amp, which makes no sense at all?

In any case a 30 amp site is $39 and a 50 amp $42 so it possibly may be moaning over $3 per night which would not surprise me at all on an RV board, especially this one.

The following came from the park's homepage: "Visitors have the option to select from tent sites and standard or pull-through RV sites featuring water, sewer, and 30 or 50 amp power connections".

Seems to me visitors can get 50 amp sites with no mention of being a member of anything.
