When I first came to the USA, I was a non-resident for quite a while. I had no issues buying and insuring a car while being a non-resident. When my status changes to resident, well nothing changed.
My insurance company has never asked me for my status.
So................ to the OP, I'm confused? Any US insurance company should be able to write a policy - am I missing something here?

Apparently they do. I've emailed about a dozen companies/brokers, none have been able to help yet.
A number of reasons - one is lack of driving history.
Also not having a US address, also only wanting cover for a short period of time.
In 2007 I managed to insure a 5th wheel and ram but it was no easy, and I can't find the name of the company I used then.
