Going through the annual motorhome insurance renewal and once again this year seeing a large premium increase (25%). This increase is on both the storage rate and the full coverage rate. No reason given by agent or company when I called both. Had first claim last year (stone chip / crack in windshield). Been with this insurance company for 5+ years at least. This is second year in a row. Bought this 2018 motorhome new 2 years ago and 25% increase each year now.I have till the end of the month to either accept the rate increase or go looking elsewhere (which I have already started doing).The catch for me is that I have it in storage 8 months out of the year and the current insurance company seems to have the best rate when in storage..Anyone else seeing large rate increases or have suggestions?Thanks

I look and compare every year. Your current company hopes you’ll be lazy and just write a check to them.

Last year my previous company wanted a 20% increase. So I changed and went to a new company. Now this year they want a 20% increase. I don't get it....the value of the RV goes down, no accidents, no tickets, yet a policy increase.

We've been with National General through Good Sam for about 30 years now and I don't think we've seen a 25% increase in the total time we've been with them - I know we've had 0% increase each of the past 5 years or so. We had a claim 3 years ago that cost them about $5K (damaged rear axle from flood waters) and a windshield claim about 12 years ago - other than that they take our money each year and we're both happy. We keep full coverage on the RV year-round because we use it year-round.

I drive an older Class A motorhome and insure through AAA for liability only for $10/month...that is not a misprint. I have 100-300K coverage, same as my cars, plus uninsured. Just don't get full coverage and don't drive like an idiot and you can save a lot.

Appreciate all the responses. I am currently with National General and have received quotes from Progressive and Auto Owners.

Looks like I will be moving to Auto Owners as they can save me at least 33% from the current National General quote (which I actually called them directly - they saved me about $200 from the independent insurance agent but still looking at a large increase).

The Auto Owners quote will actually decrease my insurance from last year.

As they say, it pays to call around and not just renew up every year. If National General had been reasonable with a small increase I would still be their customer, now I am not and will save money!

I was with National General thru Good Sam for 6 years. The 6th year they upped the rate about 5%and I wasn't happy as the value of a 2001 RV continues to drop. I had joined FMCA because Good Sam had double the roadside assistance rate. Went with FMCA roadside assistance so when insurance went up I decided to get a quote from them. They sent me 3, Don quotes, went from $850/yr National General to $540/yr Safeco for same coverage. After 6 months got a check from Safeco for $13 for no claims. Basicly the same as going to an Insurance Broker. Good luck

I have a 44 ft holiday rambler and was paying 1400. a year for ins. talking to MY ALLSTATE AGENT JEFF CALLENS 903-561-9933 told me about there new ins from allstate that cost me $460. a year while ime not driving it and basically 2 bucks a day when I do. the difference is when I have it sitting at the house it has all the coverage but not collision. when I use it I call him and the collision is added .so far it has only cost me 2 bucks per day ive been on a trip just call back when you get back home hope this helps

The annual insurance query. First, your individual driving record, your financial status (credit score), your accidents/claims or lack there of are just a few factors that determine your premium. Your state, your county, your town, your zip code potentially have different rates based on many factors that are totally out of your control. Has the cost to repair an RV gone up? Has there been a natural disaster like a tornado taking out campgrounds, or dealer inventory? Floods? Point is it ain’t you or just you. Just know that your state insurance department approved any rate increase.
