IS GS INSURANCE WORTH HAVING? OR ANOTER CHOICE BETTER?

I have a question for those with experience with Good Sam Insurance. Is it worth having? I had them many years ago, but don't recall that experience. I've been without an RV since 08, but just recently bought a used 07 Copper Canyon 5th Wheel.

I had called them last week and got a quote, the girl called today wanting to know if I was going to switch to them. I told her I would let her know the first of next week. I currently have my insurance with Country Wide in Oregon where I have my home and auto's. The cost there is thirty a month and I am not sure I am getting all the RV benefit's that I should be getting.

Thanks,

Tom

  • We have had GMAC, now National General I think, on several different coaches. We have always gotten great annual rates from them. No claims thus far, knock on wood, but our policies have increased, at the most $30.00 a year.

You can customize your plan, and they offer the storage option to save quite a bit of money, if you don't use your RV all the time.

You will have to call around and see who offers you the best rate on the options you are looking for.
  • We have GS. GS is only putting their name on National General Insurance. Not sure if their is actually a group discount as I haven't priced it. I like the "gap" insurance since we have a new rig. For a time they will give you a brand new unit if totaled. After the 2-3 years, I think, they give you one a year newer than yours. Bear in mind that to total an RV that costs over 100K is a very major accident. Had one claim two years ago when they were GMAC that took longer than I expected but they were in the process of GMAC being absorbed by NG. Premiums haven't risen in the past three or four years. Both of our california cars are also on that policy. I think they are probably as good as most.
  • I will tell you that I got GS for mine and when the renewal came up it was increased by 35% or $187, be aware of this. They were the most cost effective then and still when I checked. Also read the fine print as there are cancellation fee of $50 and others.
  • Basically GS is an insurance agent, not an insurance company. So I would shop around for best price and coverage. Different companies have different rates and services. Only you know your needs.
