Is the Good Sam Club worth it?

If you travel full-time, yes the Good Sam Membership is worth the savings considering the amount of fuel, propane, and campground discounts. We wouldn't recommend it for infrequent campers as there are other discount camping clubs which can offer higher savings.

  • I'm not so sure. We did 6300 miles this fall, staying at 19 different campgrounds. Only 2 honored a GS discount. As far as the gas? Many of the Pilot stations were Pilot for the diesel pumps only. The gas pumps were a different brand. Mostly Cenex. At 5 cents/gal, it would take 580 gallons to recoup the $29/year. So at 10mpg, I would have only come out ahead if we had been able to use the discount at virtually every gas stop on our 6300 mile trip. I'll be generous and say that we might have used it 25% of the time.

On top of that, I just received a renewal notice for a membership that doesn't expire for more than 5 months. One more reason for it to head to the recycle can.
  • Camp at GS Park 3 times and you have your money back. Fuel, propane discounts just add to the savings.
  • We think so-Good Sam lists member campgrounds all over U.S. and Canada, in their Directory or cell phone App. When we travel we always look at their App. to find Campground's with the amenities we want.
  • If you camp for a couple weeks per year then yes. At the beginning of the pandemic we let ours expire as we knew there would be a period where it wouldn't be used.
  • Doesn’t take long with gas and propane discounts to equal membership fees.
  • I use my Good Sam card with my Gas Buddy card at Flying J and get both discounts on gas!
